The museum
A world too small to see,
made tangible.
At ARTIS-Micropia, living cultures sit alongside microscopes, films, and interactive exhibits. Visitors explore the microbes around them and discover how closely these organisms are connected to everyday life.
Kossmanndejong developed the exhibition concept and scenography. ART+COM designed and developed its media exhibits. My main contribution was the 2023–2024 software renewal, followed by occasional bug fixes.
01 / Roommates
The familiar,
under a microscope.
A phone, a key, a kitchen sponge. Roommates connects the cultures in the display to the everyday objects they came from. Visitors browse the collection and open films and information in Dutch or English.


My work
I worked on the application’s interface and media behavior, including navigation, audio playback, and integration with shared exhibit components.
The applications load content from the museum’s CMS and keep media locally, allowing the exhibits to continue running offline.
02 / Microsex
Turn a dial.
Discover a microbe.
A physical rotary control selects a microbe and its film. The software translates the encoder’s movement into a rotating interface, with a pause at each position allowing the story to play.
Small movements, considered.
I worked on the encoder integration. In later maintenance, I added a simulation mode for testing and improved playback stability. One recurring issue was tiny movements in the sensor signal restarting a film. I adjusted the selection and playback logic so that small fluctuations would be absorbed while an intentional turn still changed the experience.
